The Non-Profit Director's Guide to a Stress-Free New Year

It's the end of the year and while most of your team members are excited about the upcoming holiday season, you can't stop thinking about everything that still needs to be done to set your organization up for a successful new year.  I get it.  I've been there, and as a non-profit consultant who also manages several non-profits, I am there.  I am you.  But, I'm not stressed.  Well, I'm not stressed about my organizations, and here's why:

1) I believe in the mission so much that I know others also believe and will continue to believe in it.  That makes promoting the mission so much easier.  My faith in the mission, and in the people around me, help me to relax and focus on the steps I need to take to continue sharing our mission with the community.

2) I share the mission as often as I can.  I keep my organizations in front of the public.  I don't hide our light which is good for those stressful times when you've got to reach out to a few community friends and ask for their help.

3) I'm obsessed with planning and have been having planning meetings like crazy as we get ready for a new year.  Preparation is power!  So is knowledge and I've also been researching like crazy to ensure a successful year for my clients.

Here's a tip:

If you're stressed to the max right now, ask yourself a few questions.

1) Is your mission valid?  Yes!

2) Is your mission needed in your community? Yes!

3) Is there something that you can do (other than stress) to share your passion for the mission? Yes!

4) Can you plan your way out of your stressful situation? Yes!

Then, go plan!  Go out and share the mission (start with your Board of Directors).  You may not see same-day results but you will gain new supporters, re-energize current supporters, and watch your mission begin to come alive again!
